Research area

Rui Wu is a postdoctoral researcher at the Environmental Robotics Lab since July 2023.

Rui Wu, born in 1991, studied Materials Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology, China (2010-2013), and the University of Manchester, UK (2013-2015). He received his Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering in 2018 from the University of Manchester. From 2019 to 2023, he was postdoctoral researcher at Harbin Institute of Technology, where his research involves mechanical metamaterials and soft robots, as well as space robotics for deep space explorations.

The research interests of Rui Wu are centred on mechanical systems with specialised responses, which propelled his innovations in the field of morphing and deployable structures, mechanical metamaterials, and "shearigami" foldable structures. His current research activity focus on soft robotics, including adaptive soft aerial platforms, and robots with embodied physical intelligence.
